I don’t know if it makes them feel better about themselves or more comfortable in their own skin, but it’s not right, and it can make the victim develop low self-esteem. It makes them feel like they’re just not good enough. They try all kind of things to change who they are, hoping that things will get better for them and they’ll then be accepted. It’s not good to h ave low self-esteem because it plays a big part in the kind of person the victim will become along the way in the future.
